Greene County Public Health has some reminders for everyone to keep themselves as well as others safe from the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Director Becky Wolf reminds everyone of the symptoms of the virus, which includes a fever, cough and shortness of breath. She stresses, if someone is experiencing these symptoms, they should self-isolate at home.

“We first of all encourage you to try and manage yourself at home with self-care like Tylenol, and drinking plenty of fluids, and getting plenty of rest. Then if you seem like your worsening then go ahead and call your physician’s office, or if your symptoms are becoming severe you need to call the emergency room and seek their assistance. But for most people a lot of the virus symptoms will be mild or moderate, which could be managed at home and it will pass.”

Infection Prevention Nurse Heather Kinsey explains why kids need to stay home when schools are closed.

“This is not going to affect the kids as much as it is the older adults. But they don’t need to be going to the grocery store, they don’t need to be going to their friend’s house and just hanging out around town to socialize. They should also be staying at home for these next four weeks to reduce the spread of this (coronavirus) throughout the community.”

The most susceptible individuals to the illness includes those over 60-years-old, anyone with chronic health conditions, or those with underlying health conditions.
