Perhaps it was the luck of the Irish that made for a triumphant fundraiser event for Guthrie County Relay for Life, or it was the compassion of area residents eager to help in the fight against cancer this past weekend.

The fourth annual St. Paddy’s Day-Kiss the Blarney Stone 9-Pin tournament was held at the Incredibowl in Guthrie Center Saturday, and committee member Kim Durst says there were 93 bowlers that competed for a fundraising total of over $2,000 to help fund cancer research. Durst says the group had an exceedingly fun time, “It was a very, very successful night and considering everything that’s happening in our world right now we can’t thank everyone enough for coming out for this event, having fun but also supporting the fight against cancer. So we just are truly grateful that we were able to get this event in before everything and everyone now needs to be so very conscious and considerate of what’s happening in our world.”

The tournament was the last event for Guthrie County Relay for Life for the near future, as they decided to postpone their annual event scheduled April 4th to later this fall. Durst says the committee did not take the decision lightly, and that the well-being and safety of the cancer survivors, caregivers, teams, and guests who attend the event are of the utmost importance.
