The threat of 2019 novel coronavirus in central Iowa has resulted in several closures recently, and that now includes services at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Dallas County officials have suspended most motor vehicle transactions and all passport services indefinitely, out of consideration for the health of both the public and County employees. The motor vehicle department will allow title transfers and out of state move-in transactions to continue at their office in the courthouse, but all other interactions are prohibited at this time. They also request that if people do come in they limit their party to one person. The Treasurer’s Office says they will also allow specialty plate pickup, though they ask people to wait until after the pandemic has passed to do so. People are encouraged to do registration renewals online or through the mail.

Meanwhile, the Recorder’s Office has suspended all passport transactions until further notice, and they encourage the public to do all other transactions and inquiries online for the time being. The doors to the Recorder’s Office will be locked, but employees will be present during regular business hours. Dallas County officials are continuing to assess their operations amid the COVID-19 concerns, and they encourage the public to check their website regularly for updates.
