The Perry School District has officially joined the list of schools that will be closed for about a month at the recommendation of Governor Kim Reynolds, as a precaution against the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus.
Tuesday afternoon, Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks issued a statement that after careful consideration, the administration decided it would be best to follow the Governor’s directive and take an extended spring break. The District will remain closed until April 13th, and during that time all buildings will be closed and all services and activities suspended. The one exception is the food program, with the school providing “grab-and-go” meals at the high school and elementary starting March 23rd.
The food will be provided from 10:30 a.m. – noon each weekday, and families can take one meal per child for free. The student must be present in order to receive the food. Wicks says he will continue monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and could adjust the return date for classes as needed.
