An aspect that could be lost on some people regarding the impact of the 2019 novel coronavirus pandemic is the potential effect on the local business landscape.

However, the Perry Chamber of Commerce reminds residents to do what they can to support small business, especially in these uncertain times. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says there are lots of things people can do to help their local businesses, even as they exercise social distancing. Some examples include shopping online or over the phone if available from your downtown retailers, ordering carry-out at restaurants, buying gift cards or certificates to use after the threat has diminished, or even the simple act of reaching out to the business and letting them know you support them.

Pasutti emphasizes that the way everyone is going to get through the situation is to stick together and support each other, even while keeping your distance physically. “As always, think local first and shop local as much as you can. Let’s support each other the best that we can and we’ll get through it together. I know that there are a lot of unknowns at this point, but we just have to do what we can on an individual and on a community scale, and support each other in the process.”

Pasutti says most businesses in Perry are planning to stay open this week and beyond, but advises people to call ahead or check social media before stopping by. For the latest updates on the availability of local retailers, click the link below to visit the Perry Chamber’s Facebook page.
