A Churdan home is a total loss following a fire Sunday afternoon.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Churdan, Jefferson, Lohrville and Lanesboro fire departments, as well as the sheriff’s office and Greene County Ambulance responded to the fire at 2:49pm at 340 D Avenue. Greene County Sheriff and Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio there were visible flames coming from the chimney in the attic of the one-story home.

Churdan Fire Chief Garrett Riedesel says the two occupants of the home were able to get out of the residence safely and call 911. He adds, the fire originated in the chimney and the home is considered a total loss, mostly from smoke and water damage. Riedesel notes, Jefferson Fire Department’s high pressure water truck was a big help in putting out the fire. Crews were on scene for over three hours.

No one was hurt in the incident and according to the Greene County Assessor’s webpage, the home is owned by Marilyn McGlothlen.
