The Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Strength and Conditioning program is carrying the weight of fundraising for new equipment in the high school’s fitness center addition, where every pound counts for their upcoming event.

ACGC is hosting a “Lift-a-Thon” Saturday March 21st from 2-4 p.m. at the high school as their official fitness room equipment fundraiser kickoff. Instructor Cody Matthewson says the students participating are reaching out to community members to pledge a monetary amount for how many pounds they lift that day, “Basically what we’re doing is taking all three lifts of their max that day and that’s going to create a total lift count. And they’re collecting sponsors, you know if you get a dollar-per-pound sponsor then if you have a 750 (lbs) max total then that’s a $750 donation.”

Following the event, letters will be sent to prospective sponsors to show them how much each student lifted, for them to determine how much they want to give towards the total $125,000 in equipment. Matthewson adds the fitness center will be open for community memberships, “This is a community ordeal and whether you are somebody who’s focusing on improving your physical or mental health we like to put a stress on that, but obviously having the opportunity of something for the community to be proud of.”

Matthewson says they will have several recognition levels displayed in the new facility, and a minimum $100 will get your name added to the “Donor Wall.” Sponsors are not required to attend the Lift-a-Thon event, but are welcome to view the current weight room conditions at the high school, learn more about the proposed equipment and how to sponsor a machine.
