The annual Greene County Elementary Spring Concert took place in the middle school gym in Jefferson Thursday.

The afternoon and evening performances featured the 2nd-4th grade classes as they sang, danced and acrobated their way through various songs associated with this year’s theme of “Greene County Gold.” The show was a take off of this year’s summer Olympics. The students performed 17 songs that ended with a medal ceremony where the U.S. won the gold medal and the crowd sang the National Anthem.

Physical education teacher Sean Thompson is in his first year coordinating the show with music teacher Emily Malamos. He told Raccoon Valley Radio what he thought of the performances.

“You know first I really want to thank the kids for really doing their best and I’m really proud of them. We’ve been working probably for six weeks, probably right after Christmas (break) I got started on this, because I only see them maybe twice a week. So it’s hard to get to spend 15-20 minutes every PE class to get their routine done and mastered so they look well on the performance.”

Some of the movement activities included bouncing basketballs, using gymnastic pads as bobsleds, along with running around cones and using pvc pipes as jump ropes. Click here to see pictures from the event.
