The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with a public hearing on the fiscal year 2020-21 budget. With no objections, the Council approved the budget as presented, which includes a tax levy rate of $14.30 per $1,000 of assessed value. There was also a presentation by an ISU graduate studio class on the downtown Adel 2020-2040 plan, and the Council accepted the receipt and file of the proposal. In old business, the Council held discussion on an amendment to the all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile ordinance, and set a public hearing on the topic for April 14th. They also set a public hearing for the same day to consider a rezone request for Southbridge plat 2.

Next, the Council approved allocating $10,000 in economic development funding to the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, as well as a funding request from Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Authority (HIRTA) in the amount of $7,364. They then approved a resolution directing the creation of a redevelopment plan and committee for Island Park, which was closed to camping at their previous meeting. The Parks and Recreation Board and interested residents will need to submit their recommendation by December 31st. Other items approved included: exercising the option to purchase property near the water tower; receipt and file of an annexation request east of the City; and lease agreements with the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn soccer club and youth football program.
