The next concert in this year’s Perry Fine Arts series is coming up this weekend, and the public is invited to take in some instrumental music from experienced performers.
The New Horizons Band of Des Moines will play a show at the Perry High School Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. Sunday. The group is part of an international organization which includes six individual ensembles in Iowa, and the members are mostly senior citizens. Fine Arts Committee member Cathy Clark says the band plays throughout central Iowa, and she’s excited to have them bring their particular brand of music to Perry audiences. “Some of the retirees learned to play when they were in high school, some of them have picked it up as adults. And they say that they’re (a) dedicated, enthusiastic group of seniors that enjoy getting together and making music.”
There is no cost to attend the concert, and Clark reminds people that the PAC is handicapped accessible. Free-will donations will be accepted, with proceeds helping to fund future Perry Fine Arts shows.
