Jefferson Police
An Iowa City man faces charges from allegedly burglarizing a Jefferson business.
According to Jefferson Police Captain Heath Enns, an arrest warrant has been requested for 36-year-old Dustin Winchester. Winchester is charged with Class D Felonies for second-degree theft, third-degree burglary and his second or subsequent offense for third-degree burglary of a motor vehicle.
The charges stem from an investigation that began on February 27th. Police were notified at 7:23am of a burglary incident at Countywide Electric. Evidence from the scene showed signs of a break-in, along with several reported stolen items. The police department received information from the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office with a photo of Winchester from a previous criminal incident and a traffic stop of the suspect from the same day as the Countywide Electric incident.
The police department then requested assistance from the security department of Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson. Through video surveillance review, it was discovered that Winchester’s vehicle description that matched the video surveillance from Countywide Electric, was seen in the casino parking lot before the incident. Then Winchester was seen getting into his vehicle and leaving the parking lot just 17 minutes before the burglary.
Once the warrants have been issued and Winchester has been arrested, he will be booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
