A Bayard woman accused of using a convenience store’s checking account to pay her electric bill has recently been given a deferred judgment.
Court documents show 43-year-old Wendy Marie Weatherly pleaded guilty to second degree theft, a class D felony, for an April 8th, 2019 incident. Weatherly is to be placed on two years probation and must pay over $2,300 for a supervision fee, penalty, law enforcement initiative surcharge, court costs, and restitution. If upon expiration of the probation period Weatherly satisfies all terms, conditions, and financial obligations, she shall be discharged and this case will be expunged from her criminal record. An arrest warrant was issued for Weatherly on August 15th, after the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office investigated unauthorized payments including $5,200 to Weatherly’s Alliant Energy account from Sparky’s One Stop in Bayard. The former employee was fired shortly before the investigation began last May.
