Since last September, Perry Lutheran Homes has been in charge of the home-delivered meal program in Perry and northern Dallas County, and they recently shared feedback on the program.
PLH offered surveys to their Meals on Wheels recipients, which include around 30 homebound individuals, and they reported that the results were overwhelmingly positive. Chief Operating Officer and Administrator Melissa Gannon said the surveys confirmed that the program is critical for the people they serve, and has a big impact on their daily lives. The anonymous responses included positive comments on the meal quality, delivery driver interactions, and the need for the program to continue.
Perry Lutheran Homes took over the home-delivered meal program in northern Dallas County after the dissolution of HomeCare Services last August. They’ve since relied on funding from the County, supplemented by donations from private individuals, businesses, and charitable organizations. However, Gannon points out they could always use more support from the community, as they keep up with serving around 600 meals every month. In addition to funding, they are also looking for more volunteers to deliver meals.
