A reminder that today is the district competition for Greene County FFA.

Greene County High School juniors Zach Burbank, Conner Allender, and Makayla Kafer will compete in welding, extemporaneous speaking, and ag broadcasting, respectively. Kafer tells Raccoon Valley Radio she was surprised she made it to districts as she reflects back on her first-ever performance in ag broadcasting at sub-districts.

“During it, I accidentally said a word wrong. So I started laughing during the thing, which I mean it’s better than I guess awkward silence. So I kind of giggled there for a second and I thought for sure that I was out, and I completely said my markets wrong. You’re supposed to say something-and-one-quarter and I said and-a-twenty-fifth. I was kind of surprised I made it but I think that I had enough energy that it was okay.”

The students will be competing at Harlan High School today. The state contest will be held next month at Iowa State University in Ames.
