It’s time once again to “spring forward,” as we begin Daylight Saving Time this Sunday.

Iowans are reminded to set their clocks forward an hour, transitioning the Central Time Zone from standard to daylight time. To go along with that, Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds encourages people to take the opportunity to ensure their emergency alert devices are functioning properly. “While we’re setting that clock, let’s pull that battery out of the smoke detector and change that so that it always has a fresh battery in there. Same goes for your carbon monoxide detectors. So that when there is a fire or a hazardous situation in your home, your alerting device is ready to go and will let you know and keep you safe!”

Daylight Saving Time officially resumes at 2 a.m. this Sunday, and will end on Sunday, November 1st. There is currently a bill in the Iowa Legislature to make Daylight Saving Time permanent, though that wouldn’t take effect until next year at the earliest.
