The Greene County School Board is considering some changes to the 2020-2021 school calendar.
One of the proposed changes is the start dates for each of the school buildings. Superintendent Tim Christensen says due to the remodeling of the current high school into a middle school, students will not be able to access the building until after Labor Day. The elementary and middle school students would start the day after Labor Day, September 8th, while the high school students would start the year on August 27th. Christensen explains the earlier start for high schoolers.
“(The) High school is on trimesters, which means they need more days of school than the elementary and middle school need. So they would start earlier.”
Another major change would be eliminating early Wednesday dismissals. Christensen describes what would replace that.
“We would have six all day professional development on Mondays throughout the year. If we did not eliminate Wednesdays, with the late start and everything, we would add like six days onto (the end of) the calendar.”
The last day of school would be May 28th. A public hearing on the calendar will be held during the next regular board meeting on Wednesday, March 11th at 6:30pm. Click the link below to see a copy of the proposed calendar.
