Those looking to become a hunter in Iowa must first pass a hunter education course.
Iowa law requires anyone born after January 1, 1972 to be certified in hunter education before they can purchase a state hunting license. The goals of the program is to educate participants about hunter safety, promote hunter education and ethics, train volunteer instructors to teach the course and continue to keep hunting a safe activity. According to the DNR, there were nine incidents last year from hunting, including injuries, property damage and one fatality.
The Greene County Conservation Department is hosting a three-day class March 3th and 5th from 6:30-9pm and from 8am-4pm on March 6th. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch for March 6th’s class. The March 3rd and 5th classes will be held at the Milwaukee Depot in Jefferson and the March 6th class will be at Slinginger Woods.
