The new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center draws closer to completion by the day, but there’s still work to be done before it officially opens.

At a recent Board of Supervisors meeting, Jerry Purdy with architecture firm the Farnsworth Group gave the latest update on the project. He said the first section of the facility will be finished by the end of this month, while the second should be done by March 6th. The last section, which includes the jail pod, is scheduled to be complete by April 15th, allowing the Sheriff’s Office to move in before May. Purdy added, though they’re over their initial proposed October 2019 completion date, the project is still well under the $22.9 million budget.

Sheriff Chad Leonard says he’s anxious for the facility to be finished, so he and his staff can get back to a sense of normalcy. “You know we’re in the final stages now, and certain jobs out there need to be buttoned up. But (we’re) really looking forward to getting this thing done (and) getting everybody back under one roof, going back to work. It’s been a distraction for about three years now, and we’re looking forward to just getting in it and moving on, and getting everybody to where they should be. And I think it’ll make life a lot easier.”

Leonard adds, in the coming weeks he’ll be offering public tours of the facility to any who would like to see it before it’s in use.
