The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

Majority of the meeting was spent discussing police wages. Mayor Matt Gordon started the discussion proposing a $10,000 per officer wage increase for a total of $80,000. Options that were talked about include the established retention program, as well as conducting an independent study. The Council will continue the discussion and review some of the financial figures at their next regular meeting in March.

The Council approved continuing to employ Micah Destival as the golf course manager. However, the motion to increase his monthly wage from $3,300 to $3,450 for ten months failed to pass by a 2-1 vote. Council member Matt Wetrich was absent from the meeting and Council member David Sloan voted against the increase. Sloan cited financial concerns of the golf course currently being $8,000 overall in debt. Destival has not had a wage increase for two years. City Attorney Bob Schwartzkopf noted all three council members must vote in favor for any measure to pass during the meeting.

The Council approved a resolution to set a public hearing for an amendment to the urban renewal plan for March 24th at 5:30pm. The amendment would allow the former Jefferson Veterinary Clinic building, along with Jefferson Telecom and the Jefferson Elks Lodge to be included and those buildings could use the matching facade program and other tax increment financing options.

Next, the Council approved an engineering services agreement with Bolton and Menk for an alleyway and parking lot project. The project includes the north alleyway and north to the gravel public parking lot to be paved. The cost for the engineering services and project design is $23,100. However, the Council decided to do the alleyway first, due to wanting to get the Jefferson Matters: Main Street Arch Alley project finished and then paving the parking lot if enough funds are leftover.

The Council also heard a quarterly update from Jefferson Matters: Main Street.
