Two Panorama wrestlers came away with some hardware at the state wrestling tournament over the weekend.

The Panthers qualified their two district qualifiers in senior Emry Colby and unbeaten junior Wyatt Appleseth. Colby fell in his first match and found himself against the wall to keep his season alive. He bounced back with a big win in the next round, then another one, then another one when he pulled off the upset against Winterset‘s Jack West who had beaten Colby in both sectionals and districts. After receiving an injury forfeit, Colby competed for a third-place medal after winning four consecutive matches since his opening round loss. Colby would go on to fall in the consolation final, but capped off his senior year with a fourth place medal. Coach Jason Kirtley told Raccoon Valley Radio Colby played into his role as the underdog.

Appleseth found success right away earning a fall in his first round match up in three minutes 18 seconds. He advanced to the semi finals after a quarterfinal win in a narrow four to three decision. Friday night the junior suffered his first loss of the season losing four to one to the eventual state champion from West Liberty. He bounced back with a win in the consolation semi finals to earn a place in the third-place match. Appleseth locked up his third place finish with a 5 to 2 decision in the finals.
