Earlier this month, the Greene County School District honored a local resident for their long-time support of school-related activities.

Greene County High School Activities Director Todd Gordon says Tom Kinnan received the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s “Friend of the School” Award. The award is to honor an individual who is a supporter of school-related activities or who is a volunteer. Gordon notes that IHSAA allows ADs to submit names for consideration for the award. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what makes Kinnan a good fit for the recognition.

“It’s something I kind of noticed as we went through the year, I mean here’s this guy always there (at activities), always there early and bringing in cookies for kids, and just treating our kids like this own. It’s been a blessing for me just to get to know him and I’m glad we could recognize him for that award.”

Gordon says Kinnan had a major heart procedure and missed a few softball games last summer, but as soon as he could drive, he was back supporting the teams. He adds that he will continue to honor various individuals with this kind of award.
