The Republican field is growing more crowded in the upcoming June Primary election for the District 24 Iowa Senate seat.

Josh Dyer of Jefferson recently announced his candidacy for the available seat, which is opening following the retirement of Senator Jerry Behn. Dyer was born in Fort Dodge and grew up on an acreage north of Gowrie. He graduated from Prairie Valley High School in 2011. He then graduated from Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa for history and secondary social science education. He recently moved to Jefferson with his wife Emily.

Josh is a 7th-12th grade social studies teacher with the Glidden-Ralston School District, where he is also the junior high school football coach. He is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Josh wants to ensure students are given every educational opportunity to be successful and he wants to bring fiscal responsibility to the statehouse.

He is the third Republican to announce their candidacy for the Iowa Senate seat, along with Chad Behn and Todd Rasmussen, both of Boone. Senate District 24 covers all of Greene and Boone counties, along with portions of Hamilton, Story and Webster counties.
