A Des Moines man was recently sentenced for violating his probation and operating while intoxicated from a Guthrie County incident in which he crashed his vehicle into a ravine.

Court documents show that 37-year-old Adam Joseph Stough pleaded guilty to serious misdemeanors of OWI first offense and eluding, and had his probation revoked on a conviction for possession of marijuana, third offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. Stough must serve 90 days in the Guthrie County Jail for each offense to be served concurrently. He’s been ordered to pay over $2,000 in fines and restitution, though $625 of that amount will be waived if Stough presents his temporary restricted license within 90 days of his release from custody. He must also complete a drinking drivers course and cooperate with substance abuse treatment at his own expense. All other related charges were dismissed.

The OWI and eluding charges stemmed from a December 25, 2019 incident in which Stough was clocked driving 70 miles-per-hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone at about 3:30 a.m. on Highway 44. After a Guthrie County Deputy initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, driving into a field where it eventually wrecked in a ravine.
