This afternoon’s State Wrestling Tournament session has been completed. Class 1A quarterfinals were first, followed by 3A semifinals. Both classes had consolation rounds later in the afternoon.

Seth Danker of ACGC at 126 lbs. and Blake Haub of Ogden at 220 lbs. were the 1A quarterfinalists from the area. Four others wrestled in the second consolation round and they are Justin Garcia of West Central Valley at 126 lbs., Gunnar Larson, ACGC at 132, Austin Wilson of Nodaway Valley at 160 and Aaron McAlister, Coon Rapids-Bayard at 182 lbs.

Haub was the only winner in 1A from the area. He won 8-3 over Jared Thiery of Don Bosco (Gilbertville). Haub takes on top seed Joel Mendoza of Eagle Grove in one of tonight’s last matches during the 1A semifinals.

ACGC junior Seth Danker dropped his semifinal match by 17-0 technical fall to three-time State Champion Adam Allard of West Sioux (Hawarden). Danker then lost a second time Friday afternoon to fall out of the tourney, this time by 11-3 major decision to Quinten Aney of Mediapolis.

Gunnar Larsen of ACGC fell 5-0 to Randy Jimenez of Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas and he will not place. either.

Justin Garcia of West Central Valley will not place after losing by technical fall 20-5 to Michael McClelland of Don Bosco.

Austin Wilson of Nodaway Valley lost by fall 2:46 to Gabe Carter of New London and we missed placing in the top eight.

Aaron McAlister of Coon Rapids-Bayard had a similar fate, losing by fall in 1:09 Jackson De Wald of West Lyon (Inwood).

Three Waukee wrestlers had afternoon semifinal matches and all lost. Thurman Christensen at 120 fell by fall in 3:21 to Austin Kegley of Cedar Rapids Prairie, Cody Anderson at 152 lost in overtime to Evan Yant of Waverly-Shell Rock, 6-4,  and Griffin Gammell at 182 lbs. lost 5-2 to Boone’s Taner Harvey. All three will in in the consolation semifinals tomorrow at 10 a.m. and all could still finish as high as third place.

Waukee’s Connor Kelley (126) lost in the third consolation round  to Thomas Edwards of Johnston and will wrestle in the 7th-8th place match tomorrow. Trey Wells of Dallas Center-Grimes at 132 lbs. won his third consolation round match vs. Keegan Moret of Norwalk, 8-6, and Wells will finish anywhere from third through sixth tomorrow.

Class 2A schools have their semifinals at 7:30 p.m. followed by tonight’s 1A semifinals. Both classes will have third round consolation.
