One of the bigger projects taking place this year in the City of Perry is the asphalt overlay of numerous streets, and it has a much smaller price tag than expected.
At their recent meeting, the Perry City Council reviewed the bids for the project. Four bids were received, with the lowest belonging to OMG Midwest, Incorporated out of Ankeny. The Council awarded the project to OMG, and City Administrator Sven Peterson says that was positive for several reasons. “Bids came in about $300,000 under what we estimated. So hopefully we’ll be able to go back and look at that project and possibly add in some roads or alleys, and add to that project to get up to what our budget number was. But (we’re) very excited, (and got) a good contractor, one that we’ve worked with before. One that’s worked in Perry before with our engineers, so already have a good relationship built there. And hopefully we’ll be able to get that project going early this spring!”
Peterson says the overlays will happen throughout the City, with crews identifying the roads in most need of repair. He adds, the contractor will let residents know when work will be happening on their street, though it typically takes only one day for crews to get in and out.
