The June Primary election will have some challengers for the Republican Party for the open District 24 State Senate seat.

The seat is currently held by Jerry Behn of Boone, who announced he is retiring at the end of the year. One Republican candidate seeking election is the Boone County Republican Co-Chair Todd Rasmussen. He and his wife Amy live in Boone, where they homeschool their son. Their adult daughter lives in Eastern Iowa.

Todd recently served on the committee that selected the new Boone School District superintendent, he is also the key coordinator for the “Avenue of Flags” event by the Boone Optimist Club and also worked with pro-gun candidates to the Iowa Firearms Coalition and the National Rifle Association. With 34 years in construction, Todd wants to build on a larger scale. He wants to build the education foundation for kids to get real jobs, including the ones in their hometowns, while also building better roads, hospitals, police, fire and emergency services.

Other Republicans running for the available Senate seat include Chad Behn of Boone and Joshua Dyer of Jefferson.
