The Perry City Council convened Tuesday evening for a budget workshop and regular session, held on a special night.
The meetings were moved back a day because Monday was Presidents Day. The budget session included discussion of general fund revenues and expenditures, as well as capital expenditure requests. The Council then directed Finance Officer Susie Moorhead to set the levy rate and prepare a public hearing notice. The regular session began with two public hearings, the first on the proposed contract documents for the upcoming asphalt overlay project. Following the first hearing, the Council awarded the project to OMG Midwest, which had the low bid of $1.01 million, well under the $1.4 million estimate
The second hearing was on the proposed property tax levy for the next fiscal year, which was approved for a 2.4% increase with no objections from the public. Also in old business, the Council approved a contract with Ball Team, LLC in the amount of $1.19 million for phase 1B of the renovation of the McCreary Community Building. They also approved a resolution for tax abatement applications from 2019. In new business, they accepted the donation of property located at 722 2nd Street, an uninhabitable dwelling that will be used by the Fire Department for training. Finally, they got a presentation from Police Chief Eric Vaughn regarding a proposed storm siren activation policy.
