The rescheduled Washington Township School pancake breakfast is this weekend, and the public is invited to partake in a tasty meal coupled with an educational program to support local historic preservation.

The event was originally scheduled for January 18th, but was shifted to Saturday, February 22nd due to weather. It will be from 7-10 a.m. at the school, which is located south of Perry and west of Minburn, at the intersection of county roads P-58 and F-31. Food offerings include pancakes, eggs, sausages, and drinks, available for a free-will offering. All proceeds will be used for the continued restoration and maintenance of the historic school house.

In addition to the meal, organizers will also present a book talk with local author Joy Neal Kidney at the event. Kidney is the niece of the Wilson Brothers of Perry, who’s likenesses can be seen on the Dallas County Freedom Rock in Minburn. Her book is called “Leora’s Letters: the Story of Love and Loss for an Iowa Family During World War II.” Copies will be available for sale at the breakfast, and Kidney will sign them at no cost.
