The Greene County Development Corporation Board met earlier this week in regular session.

The meeting began with a presentation from Fundraising Consultant Becky Vonnahme. She is working with the Greene County Early Learning Center on their fundraising efforts for a new $2.7 million building project. Vonnahme has worked on several fundraising campaigns in the past, including: a Sac City hospital addition project for $1.5 million, and a $500,000 garden project for a Crawford County hospital before transitioning to a grant writer position.

During reports, Greene County Medical Center Board of Trustees member Bill Raney said the search continues for a new hospital CEO, and they hope to name the new one by May .

Greene County School District Superintendent Tim Christensen said they hope to bid the high school conversion into a middle school project next month. He mentioned looking for participants through externships, where teachers go to other workplaces and use those experiences in the classroom. Christensen said part of the funding will be through their professional development line item.

Jefferson Building Official Nick Sorensen gave a housing update. He said the home by Prison Industries is ready to be delivered to Jefferson. It is one of only four homes built as a pilot project. As for the Rowland Construction project of four fourplexes, Sorensen said four units have been leased. He mentioned Rowland is interested in the JCorp property by the City water tower.

The Board then heard an update from Alliant Energy. It was mentioned that the building location in Jefferson has been closed, due to employee realignment. A settlement has been finalized with the Iowa Utility Board on the proposed rate increase. The final figures will be released next month.

Finally, GCDC Ken Paxton gave an update. He said the former Genesis Development building is still for sale. There is $1.2 million of a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan remaining on the building.
