A Casey woman was arrested after a law enforcement pursuit and now faces several charges.
According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:12 p.m. February 5th, a sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for no working license plate lights in the City of Casey. The driver, 26-year-old Courtney Lee Jones, refused to give her information and then drove away from the scene. The deputy pursued Jones’ vehicle, traveling south into Adair County and back north through Casey. Jones allegedly drove 25 miles over the posted speed limit, and was traveling all over the road in a reckless manner, turning her headlights on and off throughout the pursuit. Jones eventually lost control of her vehicle due to icy conditions while going westbound on 340th Street north of Casey, and tipped the vehicle on its driver side in the south ditch. She then fled the vehicle on foot and was not located. Inside the vehicle the deputy found an open beer can and a 12 pack of beer on the driver’s side floorboard.
Jones is charged with eluding law enforcement, an aggravated misdemeanor; interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor; as well as reckless driving, open container, failure to maintain control, and speeding in a 55 mile per hour or under zone. An arrest warrant was served for Jones on February 7th, and she was transported to the Boone County Jail where she later bonded out. Jones also received a deferred judgment for assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor on December 30th.
