The AC/GC boys basketball team had a golden opportunity to upset one of the top teams in the conference on senior night.
The 17-2 Woodward-Granger Hawks made the trip to Guthrie Center Tuesday night. When these two teams played earlier this season, AC/GC couldn’t keep pace and fell 70-53. The Chargers showed early on that this was not going to be an easy win for Woodward-Granger. Bryce Littler scored 10 points in the first to keep the Chargers within two after the first quarter. AC/GC came out of the first break on fire. The Chargers went 6-7 from behind the arch in the second quarter, with six different players hitting from three-point land. AC/GC went into the halftime break 32-29 lead. The Chargers kept the moment rolling in the third to take a five point lead into the final eight minutes. The Hawks clamped down and found their footing in the fourth using some late quarter free throws to outscore AC/GC 30-17 in the fourth quarter to avoid the upset and win 69-61. Littler led the way with 19 points in his final regular season game in Guthrie Center.
AC/GC will start their post-season Monday when they face a familiar foe in West Central Valley, who the Chargers have beaten twice this season.
