The 2020 State Large Group Speech Contest is in the books, and entries from the Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn teams have advanced to the final stage. One group from Perry and two from ADM were selected as non-performing honorees at the All-State Festival, to be held in two weeks.

Perry’s reader’s theater entry, titled “Fly Away Home,” received three Division I ratings and a judge’s recommendation, earning a trip to All-State as non-performers. This is the second straight year that the Perry reader’s theater group has been selected to All-State. For ADM, the two selections mean a return to the Festival for the team, after not advancing any last year. The choral reading piece, titled “Mi Amigo: Tony’s Tribute,” as well as the varsity improv acting group of Kale Kester, Grace Hatchitt, Max Weesner, and Seth Entriken, were selected as non-performing All-State entries, with each receiving straight “I’s” at State on Saturday.

Perry Assistant Speech Coach Allisa Bahney emphasizes that even though some entries aren’t chosen to perform, the accomplishment and recognition for the students is equal to those who will be performing. The Festival will be held Saturday, February 22nd at Iowa State University, with the three groups from Perry and ADM recognized during the opening ceremonies at 8 a.m. See below for a full list of results for rest of the Perry and ADM entries from Saturday’s State contest in Waukee.
