Yesterday, Greene County head wrestling coach Zach Beekman talked about freshman McKinley Robbins at 106 lbs. and sophomore Brenner Gallagher at 113. Those two will join senior Will Hansen (160) and junior Sawyer Schiltz (220) at the Feb. 15 Class 2A District Wrestling Tournament in Atlantic. The top two finishers in each weight class at the District advance to State competition Feb. 20-21-22 in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena.

Coach Beekman talks today about the two upper classmen.

“Will Hansen at 160 pounds is a kid that’s tough! He’s done some good things throughout the season and had some highs and some lows. He battled a little bit of injury there, but a kid that we knew at 160 had a pretty good shot at going to districts. We hope he’s able to pull things together and get his first State qualification.” Hansen wrestled much of the season at 152 lbs., but with two of Class 2A’s top wrestlers at that weight at the Sectional in Adel last Saturday, he went up a weight class and so far that’s paid off.

Schiltz has won a number of matches, primarily by fall, after trailing. The coach said, “You never know with him. He can put moves together and is really dangerous on the bottom with his hip movement and ends up catches a lot of guys from that position. You never really rule him out of anything.”

Robbins won a Sectional title Saturday in Adel while the other three District qualifiers for Greene County finished second in their respective weight classes.
