U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne

President Donald Trump (R) was acquitted this week by the Senate on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, the third president in U.S. history to be impeached.

Trump was acquitted following a trial that didn’t call for any witnesses or evidence, to which Congresswoman for Iowa’s Third District Cindy Axne (D) believes no American has ever seen in a trial, “I firmly believe that the House managers did their role in providing the information that was necessary for the Senate to hear. It’s very unfortunate to see that the Senate did not want to have witnesses or additional documentation that was necessary. I’m not sure how anybody would make a decision like that quite honestly. You would want to get more information if you’re serious about ensuring the validity of the impeachment process.”

The acquittal was voted on almost strictly along party lines, with 45 Democratic senators and two Independents finding the president guilty on both counts, and 53 Republicans finding him not guilty on the second count. Mitt Romney was the first senator in history from an impeached president’s party to vote to convict, voting guilty on the first count.
