Democratic Central Precinct in Greene County

There has been lots of national media coverage following the recent Iowa Caucus, mainly having to do with the final results not being immediately available.

Greene County Democratic Party Central Committee Chair Chris Henning describes her reaction to the negative perception when there was a delay in the statewide results from Monday’s caucus.

“We’ve gotten to be as a nation: ‘We want our numbers and we want them now.’ And we don’t realize how much goes into those numbers. If you want real numbers, you’ve got to do the work.”

One of the issues was from the new reporting process of using an app on a mobile device. However, Henning says they chose to call in their results because they didn’t get the app out to all those who needed it and didn’t receive the proper amount of training. She felt their reporting process went smoothly.

“I felt totally comfortable because we were all in (Jefferson) City Hall. We were all done, and all cleaned up, and ready to leave City Hall by 11pm. I thought that was very reasonable.”

Additionally, Henning thanks the 40 volunteers and the over 360 people that participated in the local Democratic Caucus. Henning notes the 48 Greene County delegates for former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, former Vice President Joe Biden, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren will move onto the county convention on March 21st.
