At the recent meeting of the Dallas County Supervisors, the Board welcomed students and staff from the Chinese Association of Iowa as part of their educational tour.

The group included four students who are in their senior year of high school in China, with each expressing an interest in attending college in the United States. Executive Director of the Chinese Association of Iowa Swallow Yan talked about what the students have done during their trip, such as meeting many of the Democratic Presidential hopefuls and observing the Iowa Caucuses. Yan also displayed a flag that had been autographed by most of the candidates. The next leg of the tour will take the students to New Hampshire, just in time for the nation’s first primary.

The Board had a discussion with the attendees, which included topics such as the trade war between the two nations, and the differences between the governmental process. On past educational tours, the meeting room has been packed with a few dozen students on the tour, but the Supervisors were still happy to welcome and engage with the smaller group. Supervisor Mark Hanson in particular said he always looks forward to meeting with the Chinese Association of Iowa, and he even paid a visit to China last year with Yan serving as his guide.
