Greene County and Nevada completed their two-game Heart of Iowa Activities Conference boys’ basketball series for 2019-20 on Tuesday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The first meeting on Jan. 7 in Story County went the Cubs’ way, 89-74 in a game that saw both teams make 12 three-point goals. This time was only slightly lower scoring with the Cubs winning 74-60 to improve to 8-3 in the conference and 10-8 overall. The Rams are 1-10 in the league and 3-14 on the season.
Greene County made 11 three-point shots and led 38-34 early in the third quarter before turnovers helped the Cubs to a 10-0 run in about 75 seconds that turned the game in favor of the visiting team. Kody Kruschwitz had 27 points and Chase Lykke 18 for Nevada. They average 11 and five, respectively. Nevada made nine three-point shots.
The Rams had a 16 point game off the bench from senior Cael Fisher with sophomore Bryce Stalder at 15 and freshman Richard Dougherty with 13.
The Rams play at Saydel in Des Moines on Friday on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Girls action at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow. This will be the first of two games in a week between the Rams and Eagles.
