There are currently three active projects at the Perry Municipal Airport, each in a different stage of the process, though one was pushed back a bit after no reasonable bids for construction were received.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says they received just two bids for the fuel system upgrade at the airport, even though eight contractors had inquired. Of the bids received, both were over $215,000, more than 45% higher than the estimate of $149,000. Peterson says it’s unclear why the pricetags were so high and why so few bids were submitted, but the City Council rejected all the bids at the recommendation of City Engineer Matt Ferrier.
Peterson says Bolton and Menk will take a closer look at the bid documents, and will see if they can make any changes to encourage better participation when the City holds a second bid letting. “So we weren’t really able to get a good picture of what the bidding climate was going to be like, so we’ll be kind of rethinking that project and putting it back out to bid. It’s really not too much of a time-sensitive bidding project, (and) not too much construction on that. So hopefully we can get that back out and get some better and additional bids for that project and make sure that we get the best price.”
The fuel system project involves installing a new 10,000 gallon tank at the airport, as well as credit card reader. To learn more about this and other City of Perry topics, click the link below to listen to the recent Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program with Peterson.
