Six West Central Valley High School students recently visited the state capital for the Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium.
Sabrina Becker, Paige Donnally, Destiny Robinsen, Josie Sackett, Shane Wamann and David Witt were among 560 FFA members that gathered in Des Moines on January 28th to learn about the legislative process and advocate for agricultural education and FFA. Becker says she and her fellow chapter members talked with their local legislators Senator Jake Chapman (R) and Representative Ray Sorensen (R), as well as the Senate Education Committee Chair Amy Sinclair (R), “Not only did we learn a lot about how our representatives and our senators, what they do and what they stand for, we also came there to talk to them about how we- the youth- are still interested in stuff like agriculture, agricultural education, environmental issues, and FFA and how we would like their continued support for that all across Iowa.”
The West Central Valley FFA chapter has been busy as usual with their monthly activities, including writing Valentine’s Day cards to veterans and those enlisted in the military. You can hear more about the chapter from Becker during today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
