Iowa caucuses for the 2020 U.S. presidential race are this Monday, and for the two primary political parties, the process is somewhat varied.
All voters are required to be at their precinct location no later than 7 p.m. Monday. Democrats will align in different parts of the room based on candidate preference. If a group doesn’t have at least 15 percent of the total number of people in the room, the group is considered not viable, and those members can choose to realign with another group. If a group is valid after the first alignment, those members are locked into that choice, even if it’s for uncommitted. For Republican caucuses, attendees are given a paper ballot to write down their preference in a straw poll.
Those eligible to participate must be 18 years old by election day, and are required to attend the caucus location of their voting precinct. For Guthrie County Democrats in black precinct will go to the Adair-Casey school building; purple is at the West Central Valley High School in room 100; blue and brown are at the Panorama Secondary Building; gold and white are in the Guthrie Center High School Media Center; green will go to the Yale Community Center; and red will go to the Bayard Community Center.
Republicans in the black district will head to the Adair-Casey school building; those in blue, brown, and gold will go to Panorama Elementary; green will be at the Jamaica Community Club; purple at the Bayard Public Library; red at the West Central Valley High School; and white will head to Bowmans Chapel in Guthrie Center.
