Greene County hosted Saydel (Des Moines) in a girls’ basketball make up game on Thursday night and in a down-to-the-wire thriller, the Rams won 50-48. The victory was the first of the season for Coach Tyler Westhoff’s Rams, who played without starter Brianna Osterson. Sophomore Brianna Habben had a career best 20 points and senior Izzy Bravard added 18 after missing games Monday and Tuesday this week with the flu. The Rams improve to 1-14 and 1-8 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the Eagles fall to 0-16 and 0-9 after leading 36-25 with 1:11 to go in the third quarter. The Rams out scored Saydel 25-12 from that point forward. Junior Emily Lowe had 19 points for Saydel before fouling out with 21 seconds remaining.
Junior Sadie Wilson fouled out for the Rams with 10.5 left on the clock, moments after she drained a key three-pointer that put the Rams up by four with under a minute remaining. Wilson finished with eight points.
The Rams had a season high in points and a season low in turnovers with nine. They were 18 of 31 from the foul line including 11 of 14 by Bravard. The victory snapped an 18 game losing streak going back to last season while the Eagles have dropped 26 in a row with the last 10 of last season and 16 so far this season.
