As the Iowa Caucus draws closer, there are some changes to the Democratic Caucus process this year.
Greene County Democrat Party Central Committee Chair Chris Henning says the major change is that each individual will have up to two chances to caucus for a candidate. She describes how the process will initially start.
“The first will be a percentage of 15-percent of the total people in the room will make a preference group viable, that’s where they stay. The non-viable groups, you get to choose another group that are viable.”
To begin the evening, caucus participants will decide on a precinct chair and secretary. Henning adds, one person will be allowed to speak on behalf of each candidate and allowed a two-minute time limit. After the remaining candidates are deemed viable, delegates are then chosen. Finally, the party’s platform planks will be selected. The caucus will be held at 7pm on Monday, February 3rd. Doors will open at 5:30pm.
