The City of Perry has several large projects planned for 2020, including a pair that involve the sewer facilities.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the bigger of the two is the renovation of the wastewater treatment plant, though just as important is a sewer infrastructure project. He says both have been in the planning phase for some time, and are at last ready to see some action. “We have a collection system portion, which will go out to bid in March. And that has portions of sewer under 1st Street, as well as out kind of along (Highway) 141, and then some other problem areas kind of closer to the plant on those main lines. And then the actual plant will go to bid in April. So we’ll get those back and be able to move forward with that project, probably going well into 2021 for the actual plant reconstruction.”
Peterson says the first project will focus on replacing deteriorating pipes and others that have bottlenecks restricting water flow. The second project will be to update the 25-year-old treatment plant, bringing it up to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ standards.
