The Perry School District recently got a surprise donation from one of their partners in the community, which will help children stay warm and fed this winter.

On January 15th, the Dallas County Hospital Community Pillar organization presented Perry Elementary with a check for $960, as well as a box filled with hats, mittens, gloves, and other winter clothing for kids. Donations were gathered during the hospital’s 2019 jeans day promotion, where employees could donate money or clothing items in exchange for the privilege to wear jeans to work. According to Elementary Principal Ned Menke, the school had no idea the hospital was holding the promotion with them in mind, and he said it was a welcome surprise for the District.

The cash will be used for the elementary lunch fund program, and the clothing will be given to students in need. Menke told Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s great to have community partners willing to step up and help students, and said everyone at Perry Elementary is appreciative of the hospital employees’ generosity.
