Three Guthrie County teens were arrested following an incident in Jefferson Saturday night.
According to the Jefferson Police Department, a witness saw three suspects commit an alleged assault and flee the scene in a vehicle just after 9pm in the 300 block of East Gallup Road. The witness then followed the vehicle and reported the incident to police.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of West Adams Street. As officers approached, they could smell marijuana odor coming from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search was then conducted, where officers found several illegal items, including tobacco, alcohol, drugs and a loaded .380 caliber handgun. The teens were then arrested and transported to the law enforcement center.
A 15-year-old male from Panora was charged with an aggravated misdemeanor for carrying weapons, a serious misdemeanor for his first offense for possession of marijuana, simple misdemeanors for assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol under the legal age, and was cited for using tobacco. He was later transported to juvenile detention.
A 15-year-old from Jamaica was charged with an aggravated misdemeanor for carrying weapons, and simple misdemeanors for possession of alcohol by underage person and assault. He was released to his parents.
A 16-year-old female from Bagley was charged with a serious misdemeanor for her first offense for possession of marijuana, and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving. She was additionally cited for careless driving and using tobacco. She was released to her parents.
Police Chief Mark Clouse added no one was hurt from the alleged assault.
