There have been a few times this winter season that the Greene County School District has either delayed or cancelled school due to weather. But what process does the District follow before those decisions are made?
Greene County Schools Superintendent Tim Christensen says whenever there is inclement winter weather approaching, the process he follows begins at 5am.
“One of the transportation people comes over from the eastern part of the district, kind of looks at roads. I typically drive towards the west (and) one of our buildings and grounds, transportation people look at what things look like in the central part of the district. So we’re driving around at 5 or 5:30 in the morning, (and) exchanging text messages with area superintendents, looking at all of that and try to make what (we) determine to be the best decision.”
Christensen notes he tries to make a decision to either delay or cancel school by 6am at the latest. He adds, his decision is based on student and faculty safety.
