Progress continues on the Raccoon River Pet Rescue facility in Perry, with the shelter expected to open in the coming months.

However, there’s still a lot that needs to be done before the furry friends are welcomed, and the nonprofit shelter’s Board of Directors is looking for help from the community. Board representatives say they are at around $200,000 raised of their $500,000 goal, so they’re making a push leading up to the shelter’s completion and offering special recognition to donors. People can purchase personalized bricks to be placed in the courtyard of the facility, or be recognized with a nameplate on the donor recognition wall.

The cost for the engraved bricks is $200 for a 4×8-inch piece, or $400 for 8×8. As for the donor wall, there are five different levels, starting at $500 and going up to $25,000 and above. The Board points out, the larger donations can be made in quarterly increments. The Perry area has been without a dedicated animal shelter for a year and a half, since the dissolution of the Perry Humane Society. The Raccoon River Pet Rescue facility is located on Ivy Place, just south of Highway 141 and to the west of Highway 144.
