A Yale home is considered a total loss after a fire occurred Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were initially called at about 12:50 p.m. for a fire at the residence of James Vaughan located at 1018 North Street, just west of the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Bagley Fire Chief and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator Jeremy Cooper says the fire started in the garage and spread throughout the house. One occupant inside the house and a dog escaped the fire uninjured, but a cat was not found. Cause of the fire has not been determined, but a generator was being used in the garage due to a power outage in Yale that morning. Yale, Jamaica, and Bagley Fire Departments, Panora Emergency Medical Services, and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
