For the second straight winter, the Adel Parks and Recreation Department is offering a popular outdoor activity which is free and open to the public.
The ice skating rink is now open, located at the Adel Stage and Pavilion on the northwest corner of Court and 10th streets. Parks and Rec Director Nick Schenck says they’ve upgraded their set-up this year, which last year was a simple liner purchased with the help of Adel Family Dentistry. They now have a full ice rink kit, complete with walls, which was provided by Raccoon Valley Bank. The City began setting up the rink back in November, and it’s now ready for public use.
Schenck says there is no cost to utilize the rink and it can accommodate both recreational skating and hockey, though you must bring your own skates. He adds, there are no strict hours for the rink and there’s lighting in the area if anyone wants to skate at night, but he asks that you use good judgment. He also encourages people to share pictures of themselves enjoying the rink on the Adel Parks and Rec Facebook page.
