Area farmers are reminded of an opportunity to learn more about 2020 farm bill decisions and stress management at a meeting tomorrow in Panora.

ISU Extension and Outreach and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency is hosting a meeting at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Panora Community Center. ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist Tim Christensen, FSA representatives, and Extension Human Sciences Specialists will discuss commodity title program options, rules and regulations for the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs, and mental health related sources.

Christensen says an important aspect farmers will need to decide on before the FSA deadline on March 15th is Price Loss Coverage yields, “We have an opportunity to update that PLC yield for those farms in this farm bill. So those are the 2013 through 2017 crop production averages. We’ll talk about that at the meeting, FSA has a form that you put those in and see if it’s right for you to update those yields. You can’t go down so there’s no harm in looking at it. If your new yield is lower than your old yield, you stay with your old yield, it’s the higher of the two. But we definitely want people looking at those PLC yields on those farms and seeing if they need to take the opportunity to update those or not.”

The meeting is free and open to the public. To hear more from Christensen, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
